OpenVPN Connect, the „official“ OpenVPN Inc. app, is designed to be more user-friendly for VPN users with little technical knowledge. It’s not as feature-rich as openvpn for Android, which is targeted towards more advanced OpenVPN users.

Openvpn for Android is a no-cost open-source client created by Arne Schwarzbe, enables you to connect with any VPN service that is compatible with the OpenVPN protocol. If your device doesn’t support the pre-configured VPN applications that are available in the Google Play Store, this is an excellent alternative. Setup is relatively easy. You only need to import your VPN profile files (the configuration files have an extension of.ovpn) which you can download from your provider’s website or by contacting their live chat support team.

After you’ve imported your profile, tap on the server to connect. Once connected to the server, your Internet traffic will be directed via a secure channel to the server you’ve selected in the app. The Status tab allows you to see your http://openvpnandroid.com/total-av-review-is-it-any-good/ connection’s details as well as the status of your connection. The kill switch is activated by default. It will shut down your internet connection if the VPN tunnel is lost.

The app also provides per-app VPN and an automatic feature that automatically activates an VPN connection whenever the app is used and will continue to work even after your device is shut down or switches networks. This feature, however, requires Android 7.0 or higher and could drain your battery more than usual.
